Meet our Trustees
Greg joined the Trustee Board of St Albans CAB in February 2011. He is a chartered accountant who retired in 2008, having spent his entire career in professional practice with Deloitte LLP. He joined a predecessor firm of Deloitte on graduating in 1970, was admitted to the partnership in 1989 in London and was subsequently an audit partner in the firm’s St Albans office for fourteen years, specialising in local government and charity audits. Greg is a school governor of Sandringham Academy in St Albans. Greg is a past President of the Beds, Bucks and Herts Society of Chartered Accountants.
Sandra is a retired Director of the Health and Safety Executive and a current trustee of the national charity Victim Support. She has had extensive Board experience including formulating strategy, monitoring delivery, identifying and managing risks (financial and reputational) as well as multi-million pound budget responsibility. She has been a trustee of a small charitable fund and is a Justice of the Peace. She wants to continue to make a significant contribution to public service in the local community and working as a trustee for St Albans CAB fulfils this ambition.
Cathy joined Citizens Advice as Treasurer in 2016. As a Qualified Certified Accountant she spent over 25 years in a variety of management roles within Finance teams in the Retail Sector, ultimately rising to Vice President at TK Maxx. She has a proven track record of leading both large and small teams delivering efficient transactional services and business critical financial information to Board level. Additionally she has extensive experience in business and financial planning, change and project management, internal audit and external reporting. Since leaving full time employment, in addition to her role at CASTAD, she joined STANTA (a St Albans charity supporting local business start ups). Cathy has been resident in St Albans for all of her adult life.
Paul became a bureau trustee in 2011. He has over 30 years' experience as a surveyor, dealing specifically with Central London offices. He was previously Director and head of department at Lambert Smith Hampton and then GVA Grimley. He formed his own surveying practice in the West End in 2004. During this time, he has assisted major corporate companies on strategy and the acquisition/disposal of offices, along with professional work for both landlords and tenants.
Sandy was born in 1947 in Stirling, Central Scotland although he grew up in the Highland town of Oban. In 1966 he began work in London with the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance (eventually to become DSS) and over the subsequent years worked in a variety of jobs within the Department before transferring to the Ministry of Defence in June 2001. In 2003, he retired and became a trustee at St Albans District Citizens Advice Bureau. He is married and has lived in St Albans for 28 years.
Alex joined the Citizens Advice as Trustee in 2015. Having spent a long successful and varied career in the NHS as a practicing qualified nurse (RN) and midwife (RM), she also gained a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA), later progressing to a senior level in health service operational management. Now working on a consultancy basis in strategic planning and service redesign of health provision she has worked across many health, social care and Council organisations. Her key skills cover strategic planning, change and project management, financial control, business planning, governance and health and safety. As a resident of St Albans for many years, she is interested in supporting the local community, and involved with her local Parish and District Council.
Richard was born is St Albans and currently lives in Harpenden. He is an Information Technology professional with over 20 year experience, working largely in the retail and public sector. He was the first president of 'The Three Valleys Club' which raises money for local charities. The club celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2010.
Sarah has lived in St Albans for more than 20 years, growing up in Buckinghamshire. She is a Human Resources professional with experience in a number of disciplines to Director level. Sarah's experience has been gained largely in the drinks, retail and leisure industries as well as communications, having worked in a small independent business through to a multinational organisation. She became a trustee in 2009. Sarah enjoys cycling, walking and skiing to try to keep fit.
Donia joined as a trustee in December 2015. She is a financial planner with Avanti Wealth Management. Having worked in financial services for over 14 years, Donia is passionate about the importance of providing clear and transparent financial information. She seeks to motivate people to engage in money matters and make the right decisions. In her free time Donia enjoys skiing and hiking in good company, with a splash of wine and nice food and a good book to read by the fire.
Michael joined as trustee in 2016. He qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and works at Debenhams Ottaway LLP in St Albans. He specialises in advising both employers and employees on all aspects of employment law across a wide range of industries. When not at work Michael enjoys watching most sports and attending the cinema as often as possible.
