Real Life Stories
A young man suffering from extreme anxiety and receiving treatment from mental health servies was unable to attend a work-focused interview in person and was threatened with sanctions that would stop his benefit.
Our volunteer adviser patiently persuaded the Job Centre Plus to conduct the work-focused interview by phone instead of in person.
Meeting the requirement to have a work-focused interview prevented sanctions from being applied and maintained the benefit payment. This meant the client's housing benefit continued and his rent was paid, preventing his housing being jeopardised.
